Hand Therapy Treatment Options

Our hand therapists use a variety of techniques to treat problem areas in the hand. Some of our treatment options include:

  • Manual therapy
  • Soft-tissue massage
  • Myofascial release

The goal of our hand therapists is to help patients regain missing function in their upper extremities. In order to do this properly, our physical therapists will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your hand’s motion, sensory, and strength abilities. Your treatment plan will be created based on your scores for each section. That being said, the following treatments are common for hand therapy clientele:

  • Exercises to increase range of motion
  • Activities to improve fine motor coordination
  • General strength and conditioning exercises
  • Ongoing education to prevent reoccurrence and degeneration of the condition

Depending on the injury, patients can expect their treatment to take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour.

If this is your first experience with physical therapy and you’re feeling a bit worried or confused about treatment, our staff is here to answer your questions and assist you in whatever way you need.
